Uyen Dang
Having three older siblings who had chosen to study IT at UTS was a big influence on BIT student, Uyen Dang.
"It made me more aware of what was available and offered at uni. I was exposed to IT a lot more at home compared to others. Studying IT was a personal choice but I think everyone can be influenced, to some degree, by family members or friends when deciding which course and career to undertake."
After only one semester Uyen undertook her first industry placement in the course with Accenture.
"During the first three months I was at the Department of Education and Training client site, where I did business consulting, working on business deliverables and program management. For the remaining three months I was placed with the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing, as part of the Applications and Specifications team where I was involved with more technical related work, such as testing and also business consulting."
Uyen also values UTS' strong industrial links, "the opportunity to experience what the 'real world' of work is like before actually graduating is a major relief for me personally as a first year student."
"What I enjoy most about the course is the close relationships that you develop within the course, with the supervisors and fellow students. You are surrounded by people with similar career interests who also understand the need to expand the IT industry."
Uyen wants to pursue a career in consulting, with work in both technical and business aspects, but would also like to experience work at a financial firm at some stage. She will be well placed to achieve these goals graduating from the BIT at UTS.
