Susannah Ng
Susannah Ng chose to study the Bachelor of Science in IT for the range of subjects available, the flexibility and the opportunity to work for a year as part of the degree. "I was able to study a sub-major in Business Accounting as well as my IT subjects and the industrial training really gave me a head start in my IT career."
Susannah was impressed with the sociable students, approachable staff and the practical subjects in her course. Her time at UTS also offered her other opportunities such as: working on the IT faculty's help desk as a Technical Support User Assistant; helping to organise and run the faculty's orientation camp; and being part of the Young Achievers Australia (YAA) program in the team "Yacht Buoy".
"My experience as Technical Support User Assistant was rewarding and enabled me to enhance my troubleshooting and problem solving skills. Being selected as a 'Yellow Shirt' to assist in the planning and running of the orientation camp was great fun and gave me the opportunity to help new students in the transition from school to university. As a member of 'Yacht Buoy' I was involved in setting up a new company and following it through to the liquidation process. Our team did very well, winning the Harvey Norman Company of the Year, Virgin Mobile Marketing and Virgin Highest Revenue Earning Company awards!"
For her industrial training year Susannah was employed with MLC Wealth Management where she worked in the Enterprise Information Systems/Siebel team.
"This position required me to assist in the development, maintenance and support of the Siebel customer relationship management application used by the company's financial advisers. Working at MLC strengthened my technical skills and allowed me to gain extensive knowledge and skills in business analysis."
"Working at MLC enabled me to experience what the IT corporate world is all about. As well as acquiring a knowledge and skill set in IT I have benefited from the great friendships I've made since my orientation camp in year one and throughout my course."
Susannah secured a position with Ernst and Young at the risk and technology services business unit upon completion of her course. She will be responsible for analysing clients' IT processes and controls and assisting them to manage risk and uncertainty to enhance the reliability of their systems and processes.
