Vietlong Le

Vietlong Le finished his Bachelor of Information Technology at UTS in 2003 and went to work for Deutsche Bank.

Looking back on his three years with UTS, Vietlong says UTS gave him everything he needed to take his first steps as a graduate. "They went by in a flash. The course was packed to the brim, but that's good considering the real world is just as hectic."

"My first year was an eye-opening and inspiring time. After first semester I began working at Cisco Systems as part of the course's industry experience component. That was incredible, and a lucky opportunity for me, having just turned 18. It was in an area where I did real work that offered tangible benefits."

As part of his second industry placement at the start of his final year, Vietlong worked at Accenture Consulting. It was here that he came face to face with new technologies and different work cultures. He admits it opened his eyes to both the consulting and telecommunications industries. "What's more", he adds, "working on real projects gave me a head start in the job search."

There was much that Vietlong liked about the course, in particular the intimate experience gained from working with two separate companies in different industries. "Having to adapt and change roles helped me to identify my strengths and weaknesses - and where my future career lay."

What is interesting to him now is how the last semester of the course wrapped things up. The subjects really put things in perspective.

"My time in the Bachelor of IT course gave me invaluable experience, that was relevant to the industry at large. Actually, what sticks with me today is the faith everybody placed in me to make use of the opportunities given to me."
